General Information
The Consular Office provides selected notarial services in accordance with Italian legislation. These include the receipt of public legal documents (powers of attorney, wills,) certificates and certifications, authentications, etc.
These services are provided exclusively for Italian citizens living permanently outside Italy or who are temporarily abroad. Exceptions are made for cases involving both citizens and non-citizens; in these cases the Italian citizenship of at least one of the parties prevails.
Alternatively, the Italian citizen living abroad may choose to use the services of a notary public accredited in his/her/their country of residence. If the said country is not a signatory to the 1961 Convention of The Hague (Canada is not a signatory) the notary’s signature will have to be legalized by the Italian Consular Office.
