Passport and Identity cards

General information

The passport is a travel and an identification document.

As of June 26, 2012, all Italian citiziens, including minors (children aged from 0 to 18 years old) are required to have their own individual passport.

The passport is issued by appointment only – which is necessary in order to take fingerprints – that can be requested through the online booking portal Prenot@mi.

 

Electronic ID card (CIE)

Electronic ID cards (CIE) are issued exclusively by Consular offices in the European Unione and in Great Britain, Switzerland, Norway, the Principality of Monaco, San Marino, and the Holy See – Vatican City.
