The celebrations for National Unity and Armed Forces Day, organized by the Office of the Defense Attaché in Washington in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Ottawa, were held last night at Rideau Club. Numerous institutional representatives of Canada, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, foreign military attachés and representatives of the Italian and Canadian defense industry attended the event.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, H. E. Andrea Ferrari, recalled President Mattarella’s words on the role of our Armed Forces in defending and protecting democratic institutions and the rights of every citizen, in Italy and around the world, as well as their spirit of service and sacrifice in serving the Italian flag. Ambassador Ferrari then stressed the strong friendship ties binding Italy and Canada, as shown by the close bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
Representing the Canadian Armed Forces, the Deputy Chief of Defense, General S. R. Kelsey, highlighted the solidity of Italian-Canadian relations and expressed admiration for the Italian Armed Forces.
