The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, and the Consul General in Montreal, Enrico Pavone, attended the sixth Italian Space Day yesterday at McGill University in Montreal, organised by the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the Consulate General and the Canadian Space Health Research Network.
The event provided an important opportunity to highlight cooperation between Italy and Canada in the space sector and to promote Italian excellence in research, technology, and innovation in support of space exploration and applications.
In collaboration with Professor Giuseppe Iaria, founder and director of the Canadian Space Health Research Network, Italian Space Day was held as part of the Canadian Space Health Research Symposium, dedicated to the theme of resilience in the medical and scientific fields.
The session focusing on Italy was included in the panel entitled “Lunar Missions: Italian Excellence across Science and Technology”, moderated by Dr. Robert Thirsk, physician, engineer, former astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency, and one of the most prominent figures in Canada’s space sector.
The panel brought together four distinguished researchers who received their scientific training in Italy and are now leading figures in Canadian research: Dr. Giovanni Beltrame (Polytechnique Montréal), Dr. Cristina Conati (University of British Columbia), Dr. Gabriella Gobbi (McGill University) and Dr. Ciriaco Piccirillo (McGill University).
As Ambassador Cattaneo emphasised in his remarks, their scientific achievements attest to the excellence of Italy’s higher education and research system, as well as to the creativity, talent, and capacity for innovation that characterise Italian ingenuity.
