L’italiano in Canada

L’italiano in Canada e nelle Università canadesi

Secondo le stime del censimento del 2016 condotto dal Governo Canadese (ultimi dati disponibili), nel Paese risultano ben 375,640 persone di madrelingua italiana.
Generalmente lo studio dell’italiano nelle scuole e nelle Università canadesi è più diffuso nelle zone in cui vi è un’importante presenza di comunità italiane. Esso inoltre è spesso inserito in diversi curricula scolastici, grazie ad accordi ad hoc conclusi con i provveditorati delle singole province.

In diverse Università di Québec, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba e Nova Scotia si possono trovare poi dei dipartimenti d’italiano con corsi di laurea appositi, ma anche dei semplici programmi linguistici, tra cui alcuni dedicati agli adulti in una prospettiva di educazione permanente, processo di costante apprendimento che riguarda l’intera vita di un individuo.

Nel programma di più ampio respiro della “Promozione del Sistema Paese”, la valorizzazione e la diffusione della lingua e della cultura italiana nel mondo costituisce una delle cinque coordinate di azione prioritaria. In tale programma s’inseriscono le figure professionali nominate dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale (MAECI) come personale scolastico in Italia che, previo concorso, vengono poi inviate in molti paesi del mondo come dirigenti scolastici, dirigenti amministrativi, docenti di scuole italiane all’estero o lettori. Attualmente in Canada sono in servizio due lettrici, una presso la Carleton University di Ottawa e una presso la University of British Columbia di Vancouver, mentre a Toronto e Vancouver sono presenti due Direttori Didattici di ruolo a cui presto se ne aggiungerà un altro a Montréal.
