From May 25 to May 28, Professor Francesco Corvaro, Italy’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, carried out a mission to Ottawa and Montreal.

The visit provided an opportunity for Prof. Corvaro to take part in the roundtable discussion “The Arctic Frontier: Science, Cooperation, and Diplomacy”, organized in Ottawa by the Scientific Office of the Embassy of Italy and the University of Ottawa. Among the speakers and participants were the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, as well as numerous Canadian scientists, military representatives, diplomats, and academics.

The event also served as an occasion to present the second edition of the International School of Science Diplomacy, which will take place next October at the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice.

During the mission, Prof. Corvaro also held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of the Canadian Climate Institute, the Waterloo Climate Institute, MACC, Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of the Environment, and the Department of Natural Resources, as well as the International Civil Aviation Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme.

The mission further strengthened the bilateral dialogue between Italy and Canada on climate action, scientific cooperation and the energy transition.
