The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, participated yesterday in the Opening Gala of the B7 Summit under the Canadian Presidency, organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce at the prestigious Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec. The Summit gathers representatives from the national business federations or equivalent entrepreneurial associations of the G7 member countries. Ambassador Cattaneo was invited to deliver opening remarks alongside Canada’s G7 Sherpa, Cindy Termorshuizen, to reinforce the message of continuity between Italy’s G7/B7 Presidency in 2024 and Canada’s Presidency in 2025, building on the significant achievements reached last year during Confindustria’s B7 Presidency. The Italian business federation is attending the B7 Summit in Ottawa with a delegation led by Vice President Barbara Cimmino.

In his speech, Ambassador Cattaneo emphasized the continued relevance of the G7, especially in times of crisis, as an indispensable forum for coordination among the world’s most advanced democracies. He underlined the importance of maintaining close cooperation between the G7 and its business dimension, the B7, following the example set by Confindustria last year. Ambassador Cattaneo also extended his best wishes to the new Canadian government, represented by the Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne, the Minister of Industry, Mélanie Joly, and Minister Evan Solomon, who leads the newly established Ministry for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation. The new government will guide Canada through a year marked by significant challenges and its G7 Presidency. The event was also attended by numerous members of Parliament and key figures from Canada’s institutional, political, and economic sectors.
