On the occasion of the Canadian National Day of Mourning, which is observed together with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work promoted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, took part today in the official commemoration ceremony held in Ottawa.
During the ceremony, the Italian Ambassador laid a wreath in memory of the many Italians who lost their lives while carrying out their work in Canada, paying tribute to their sacrifice and to the extraordinary contribution of Italian labor to Canada’s economic and social development throughout its history.
Italy’s participation in the ceremony aimed to highlight the strong historical ties between Italy and Canada and the importance of a universal commitment to increasingly safe and dignified working conditions.
On the same day, the Consul General of Italy in Toronto, Luca Zelioli, attended the commemorative event organized by the Consulate General itself in collaboration with Villa Charities and the Italian Fallen Workers Memorial Project Committee.
