Winner of the 2024 Ingegno Italiano Award

The Italian Embassy in Ottawa is glad to announce that Prof. Andrea Damascelli is the winner of the 2024 Ingegno Italiano Award.

The evaluation procedure of the prize was coordinated by the Scientific Office of the Embassy with the support of its Scientific Council, consisting of three internationally recognized scientists: Prof. Rolando del Maestro (McGill University, Montreal, Emeritus), Prof. Gabriel Niccoli (University of Waterloo, Emeritus), and Dott. Ing. Franco Mammarella (Directorate – Engineering Services, TRIUMF Emeritus).

Prof. Andrea Damascelli is the founder and Scientific Director of the University of British Columbia’s Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (QMI), a Professor at UBC’s Department of Physics and Astronomy, a Tier I Canada Research Chair in the Electronic Structure of Quantum Materials, and the co-Director of the Max Planck-UBC-UTokyo Centre for Quantum Materials.

His work on quantum materials has gained global recognition and helped position Canada as a leader in the field of photoelectron spectroscopy. Andrea Damascelli belongs to several important Scientific Societies and his work has been recognized by prestigious fellowships and awards. He is the winner of the first edition of the Embassy of Italy Ingegno Italiano Award for “his outstanding contributions and leadership in the study of Quantum Materials, through innovative approaches, that have significantly enhanced our understanding of their properties and application in quantum technologies”

On May 10th , Prof. Andrea Damascelli, will give the talk “Quantum Materials by Design” in the context of the scientific discussion on the Italian contribution to science in Canada, “Italian Talent in Canada: Excellence and Collaborations” at 3:30 PM, at Carleton University, Richcraft Hall, 1125 Colonel By Dr, Ottawa.

In this occasion, the Italian Research Day in the World will also be celebrated.
