The celebration of the National Day took place on June 7 at the National Gallery of Canada, in the Grand Hall which was illuminated in red, white and green for the occasion.
The Ambassador of Italy, H.E. Andrea Ferrari, addressed a message to the guests in which he underlined the extraordinary relationship of friendship and collaboration that binds Italy and Canada, and reiterated the common values such as peace, freedom and justice, that unite our countries.
The Speaker of the House of Commons spoke on behalf of the Canadian Government. While recalling his own Italian origins, the Hon. Anthony Rota highlighted the importance of Italian immigrants’ contribution to the foundation of Canadian society, also recognized at the federal level since 2017 with the proclamation of the month of June as Italian Heritage Month. The Hon. Rota cited the friendship and the close bond that unites Italy and Canada, as a virtuous example of bilateral relations, which, in these difficult times, constitutes a role model for all nations.
