G7 Taormina. Border controls temporarily restored

In view of the G7 Summit in Taormina, Sicily, Italy (May 26 and 27, 2017) border controls within the Schengen Area will be temporarily restored at ground, air, and maritime points of entry into Italy.

The temporary suspension of unrestricted movement within the Schengen Area is in accordance with article 25 of the Schengen Border Code (EU Regulation 2016/399 of March 9, 2016) and is standard practice by Schengen Countries for similar events.

Border enforcement will be in effect from midnight May 10 to midnight May 30, 2017. The measure could have a significant impact on travel times of citizens of third countries who enter the Schengen Area through another Member country and subsequently wish to enter Italy.
