Minister Alfano on the tragic facts of Berlin

“I was deeply struck and grieved at the news of this evening’s despicable attack in Berlin and I express my deepest-felt condolences and my warmest sympathy to the German Government. We are close to the German people in this sorrowful moment, which should instead be of joy and peace as we approach the Christmas festivities,” said Angelino Alfano, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, when commenting the tragic events perpetrated in the German capital.

“These last few days’ repeated episodes – Minister Alfano added – will not change our determination to combat terrorism together with our international Partners and alongside Germany in particular, with which Italy is closely coordinated.” He went on: “I want to assure our fellow-citizens that the Italian Government is carefully monitoring the developments in close cooperation with German institutions and with Italian consular officials. The Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Unit is carrying out the due verifications.”
