5th Conference to replenish the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, will be in Montreal to attend the 5th Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. Ever since it was established at the G8 in Genoa in 2001, supporting the Global Fund has been one of the priorities of Italy’s development aid programme.

With a total contribution of more than 1 billion dollars, Italy is among the top 10 donors in the history of the Fund. At the end of June the Government approved to pledge another 130 million euros for the 2017-2019 period (+30 % from the previous three-year period).

On the sidelines of the Conference, Minister Gentiloni will have talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Foreign Minister Stéphane Maurice Dion, and with the Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre. Mr. Gentiloni will also meet with Bill Gates (in Montreal in the capacity of President of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) in addition to members of the local Italian community.
