Libya: Italian contribution to removing precursor chemicals and their successive disposal

In the framework of the international support to the Libyan Presidential Council and to the GNA headed by Prime Minister al- Serraj, Italy has actively participated in planning and carrying out the removal of the remaining precursors of chemical weapons still present in Libya in order to destroy them.
Italy has contributed to the success of the operation since the beginning, in particular by collecting some samples of such substances. Successively, Italian Navy ships and the Coast Guard were deployed to escort the Danish vessels shipping chemical agents out of the country to Germany, where they will be disposed of.
The entire operation was carried out under the aegis of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and endorsed by the UN Security Council.
