Italian Marine Latorre to stay in Italy until the end of the arbitral proceedings

Italian Marine Massimiliano Latorre will remain in Italy. The Foreign Ministry welcomes with great satisfaction the Indian Supreme Court’s decision released today extending Latorre’s right to remain in Italy until the end of the arbitral proceedings, as requested by Italy. With this provision, the Court extended to Latorre the decision issued last 29 April by the Court of Arbitration established at The Hague, which had made the same provision for Marine Salvatore Girone. The decision marks an important step in recognising the Italian Government’s commitment to uphold the reasons of the two Italian marines before the international court of arbitration. Italy shall show equal commitment in the next phases of the arbitral proceedings, which are due to decide on the merit of the Enrica Lexie case.
