Italy supports the Libyan Government of National Accord led by Prime Minister Fayez al Serra. Since its formation, Italy has encouraged the government to undertake the necessary actions to bring stability and peace back to the Libyan people.Italy values the efforts undertaken by the Government of National Accord and by the forces loyal to it in order to defeat terrorism.
Particular emphasis has been placed upon the Bunyan al Marsous operation, designed to free the cities of Sirte from Daesh.Italy has given its support to this specific operation in the past few months in different ways. In particular, through major humanitarian actions for the treatment and care of wounded military and for the benefit of the country’s health care structures.
In this light, Italy gives positive consideration to the air strikes that the U.S. started today against some Daesh targets in the city of Sirte. They were requested by the Government of National Accord and in support of the forces loyal to the Government, both pursuing the common goal of reestablishing peace and safety in Libya.
