Libya: Minister Gentiloni has telephone conversation with Prime Minister Fayez Al Sarraj

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni, had a telephone conversation today with Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al Sarraj. Minister Gentiloni expressed Italy’s appreciation to Mr Sarraj for the commitment shown by the Government of National Accord in its fight against terrorism, as well as the results the GNA and supporting forces are achieving in the area around Sirte. Minister Gentiloni also expressed Italy’s consensus as to the request addressed by Libya’s unity government to the United States of America in securing Daesh’s final defeat in Libya, also pursuant to Resolution 2259 (paragraph 12) unanimously adopted by the Security Council in December 2015.

Mr Gentiloni confirmed that Italy would continue to be available to provide the GNA with whatever assistance may be necessary, especially in the humanitarian and health fields. Minister Gentiloni also said that Italy appreciated the actions Libya’s Government of National Accord is undertaking to gradually bring stability back to the Country.Prime Minister Sarraj thanked Italy for its diplomatic action and the humanitarian support it has provided his country in recent months. He committed himself to defining the subsequent phases of this collaboration in the next few days.
