Minister Gentiloni’s comments on the situation in Turkey

“We were relieved to find that last night Turkey successfully forestalled a military adventure that would have plunged the Country into chaos and revived the specters of the past,” Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni, said. “It is most tragic that this adventure should claim so many lives,” remarked Mr Gentiloni. “It is now time for the Turkish authorities to do their utmost to ensure respect for the rule of law, for fundamental rights and for the role of Parliament”. “It is urgent and necessary to promptly reinstate constitutional order and stability without indulging in logics of violence,”concluded Mr. Gentiloni.
