Italian ambassador to Canada hosts benefit concert

(AGI) Ottawa, July 7 – Italy’s Ambassador to Ottawa, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, provided an exceptional setting for a benefit concert in Canada, hosting a fundraiser for the Ottawa National Arts Centre (NAC) Orchestra at his residence. The orchestra’s musicians gave a performance for the occasion. Tenor Fraser Rubens and baritone Gary Dahl were accompanied by pianist Judith Ginsburg and by the piano-cello duo of Silvie and Bryan Cheng. They performed music inspired by the city of Venice, including compositions by Antonio Vivaldi, Antonio Lotti, Gabriel Faure’, Manuel de Falla, Niccolo’ Paganini, and Roberto Lovera. The funds gathered will be used to support the orchestra’s initiatives, grant scholarships to young musicians, and promote musical education programmes in schools. The benefit concert falls within the framework of the cultural activities promoted by the Italian Embassy in Ottawa. More than 400 guests attended the event, including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Beverley McLachlin, Supreme Court Judge Michael Moldaver, Ottawa’s Mayor, Jim Watson, and representatives from Canada’s diplomatic corps and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Office.
