The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, expressed satisfaction at the release of the Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadia Savchenko and the simultaneous release of two Russian agents detained in Ukraine.
“The news of the release of Nadia Savchenko, to whom I wish a hasty recovery after the long detention period, is a very positive development in the relations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which can contribute to increasing mutual trust and relaunching the dialogue towards a negotiated and peaceful solution of the crisis in Eastern Ukraine,” said the Minister.
“Italy staunchly supports the work carried out by the Normandy Format group and by the OECD, aimed at achieving the full enforcement of the Minsk Agreement, including the clauses relative to the release and exchange of hostages and prisoners. I therefore reiterate the need to maintain open the channels of dialogue between the two parties and the news released today is a very positive sign in that direction,” concluded Mr Gentiloni.
