Italy gives Sri Lanka 200,000 Euros in humanitarian aid

The Italian Cooperation service has made available a 200,000 Euro multilateral emergency contribution to support the activities carried out by UNICEF in Sri Lanka in responding to the extremely serious emergency situation created by the passing of Cyclone Roanu.

Italy’s financing will assure the delivery of relief supplies, the temporary shelter for displaced people and targeted interventions in the area of water and hygiene. More specifically, the Italian contribution – which was decided jointly with the Italian Development Cooperation Agency – will make it possible to finance emergency aid activities in favour of the civilian population through the supply of drinking water in the worst hit areas and the distribution of portable toilets and hygiene kits both to individual homes and to the shelters for displaced people set up by the Government.
