Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni held a telephone conversation this afternoon with Libyan Prime Minister designate, Fayez al Serraj.
Serraj, who was speaking from his Tripoli office, confirmed the determination of the Presidential Council to press ahead with engaging all Libyan parties in a dialogue aimed at consolidating the government of national accord and beginning the stabilisation of the Country. As regards the current situation in the country’s capital city, Serraj said that there have been no clashes although the situation remains volatile. Minister Gentiloni reiterated Italy’s support to the government of national accord and to any action designed to expand and consolidate the consensus for it.
Finally, Gentiloni and Serraj agreed on Italian Cooperation seeing to a timely delivery of food (860 tonnes) and medical aid (3 general sanitary kits which would guarantee treatment for 30,000 patients). The government of national accord will distribute food and medical aid to Libyan citizens who are suffering the most.
