This morning, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, was received by the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada.
The meeting, held in an atmosphere of great cordiality, offered an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on the strong bilateral and parliamentary relations between Canada and Italy in the political, economic, scientific and cultural fields.
Special attention was devoted to parliamentary diplomacy, as well as to joint efforts and cooperation in the main multilateral fora, including NATO and the G7, to our shared commitment to the common values of freedom and democracy and to support for Ukraine.
The Ambassador also underscored the excellent results achieved by the Government of Canada within the G7 framework, with the full support of the Italian Government.
During the meeting, Speaker Scarpaleggia and Ambassador Cattaneo further highlighted the vital role of the vibrant, numerous and dynamic Italian-Canadian community, of which Speaker Scarpaleggia is himself a proud descendant.
