RMN07725

On 25 June, the exhibition “Fashion Frames: Where Style Becomes Cinema,” a tribute to the magical encounter between Italian fashion and cinema, opened in Toronto during the opening night of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF), in the presence of the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, and numerous representatives of Canada’s cultural community.

Curated by Stefano Dominella and organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto together with ICFF, under the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy and the Embassy of Italy in Canada, the exhibition explores how Italian elegance has helped shape the visual imagination of the silver screen.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Alessandro Cattaneo described fashion and cinema as “two universal languages that have successfully brought Italian creativity to the world, transforming it into a shared dream.”

Stefano Dominella guided guests on a journey through costumes that have made cinematic history: from the iconic sensuality of Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita, to the timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn in War and Peace, and the striking visual power of The Great Beauty, featuring Sabrina Ferilli. The exhibition includes creations by celebrated designers such as Gattinoni, Mariotto, and Valentino, offering tangible testimony to Italy’s unique cultural heritage.

The Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Alberta Lai, also announced the opening on 30 June of the exhibition’s second section, hosted at the Institute’s gallery. This new display traces seventy years of Italian style through creations by Pucci, Versace, Fiorucci, Prada, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana, complemented by original archival materials.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19 July at the Distillery District (50 Gristmill Lane, Toronto) and until 27 July at the Gallery of the Italian Cultural Institute (496 Huron Street, Toronto).
