The scientific mission of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), the National Research Council (CNR) and the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), led by the INFN’s President, Prof. Antonio Zoccoli, is currently underway in Eastern Canada. The mission aims to deepen the understanding of the Canadian scientific landscape in the fields of quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, and nuclear energy, and to establish contacts with Canadian counterparts. The visit is linked to the Roadmap for enhanced cooperation between Italy and Canada, adopted last June by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Borgo Egnazia.

The mission, organized with the support of the Scientific Office of the Italian Embassy in Ottawa, in coordination with the Office of the Scientific Advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister and the Canadian Embassy in Italy, has already stopped in Montreal and Ottawa, with dedicated visits to key centers of research excellence. Last evening, a working dinner was hosted at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, with the participation of prestigious Canadian and Italian guests from the institutional, scientific, and industrial sectors. The delegation will be engaged until March 7 in Toronto, Waterloo, and Sudbury, where the SNOLAB underground laboratory is located, which has a significant collaboration with the Gran Sasso National Laboratories on dark matter research.
