The Embassy of Italy in Ottawa, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Montreal, the Italian Trade Agency, and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Montreal, organized a round-table on Friday, March 14th, in Quebec City titled “Growth Strategies for Italy in Canada.”
Many of the leading Italian companies operating in Canada took part in the event, in the presence of the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. CDP, SACE, and SIMEST also participated online.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, emphasized that the current challenging situation creates an opportunity to strengthen the already excellent commercial cooperation between Italy and Canada, highlighting the Italian institutions’ willingness to support this effort.
In his greeting to the companies, Minister Tajani stressed the importance of encouraging Italian exports – which account for 40% of Italy’s GDP – to high-growth potential markets, such as Canada, in line with the new Export Strategy that will be presented on March 21st at Villa Madama. The Vice President of the Council emphasized that the quality of Italian products is the best tool to enable companies to overcome the main current commercial challenges.
Subsequently, ICE President Matteo Zoppas and representatives from Ferrero, Fincantieri, Leonardo, Mapei, Labomar, Campari, Prysmian, and other participating companies discussed the main challenges and opportunities in the current political-economic landscape. The event ended with two sessions focused on the energy transition and innovation sectors, moderated by ITA and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Montreal.
