To close the ninth edition of the Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Canada organized yesterday at the historic Rideau Club in Ottawa a dinner prepared by Chef Daniele Corona, who in 2022 led “Don Alfonso” restaurant in Toronto to earn its first Michelin star and recently obtained a Michelin star for his restaurant “DaNico”, and the Embassy’s talented chef Cristian Lepore. In his opening remarks, Mr. Matteo Gazzetti, Head of Commercial Affairs at the Embassy, while referring to the central topic of the 2024 edition of the Week “Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine”, emphasized how the Italian interpretation of the Mediterranean Diet includes recipes that combine taste and quality of ingredients, thereby, promoting a healthy lifestyle. Among the many guests in attendance were the Chief Justice of Canada, the Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner, the Nobel Prize in Physics, Dr. Arthur MacDonald, the Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Sen. Peter Boehm, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Robert Oliphant, the President of the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Dr. Sylvain Charbonneau, the President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Dr. Alejandro Adem, the President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Dr. Ted Hewitt, as well as representatives of the Canadian political, economic, scientific, media and cultural realms. The evening’s menu, focused on modern reinterpretations of traditional Italian dishes and ingredients and accompanied by quality Italian wines, turned out a great success. The event followed a scientific initiative dedicated to the impact of the Mediterranean Diet on health, organized last week by the Embassy’s Scientific Attaché at the Royal Society of Canada.
