Different times, different myths. 16th Quadriennial art exhibition

The Farnesina, in cooperation with the Fondazione La Quadriennale, will promote international participation in the 16th Quadriennial on Visual Arts in Italy, to take place at Rome’s Palazzo delle Esposizioni from Oct. 13, 2016 to Jan. 8, 2017. The Italian Embassies and Consulates in the capital cities of the major partner markets and the targets of the event, in addition to cities on the frontline in the field of contemporary art, will organise a rich programme of promotional events dedicated to ‘insiders’ such as artists, art dealers, and specialised journalists.
The Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini, has strongly supported the relaunching of this exhibition. It is, in fact, a co-production of Rome’s Fondazione La Quadriennale and the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, with the aim of detecting and enhancing the most important expressions of post-2000 Italian art, and unleashing the potential of young generations of artists. Part of the project is also the promotion of knowledge of Italian contemporary art among school students through educational activities in art in Italian schools.
The Quadriennale will include 99 artists and 150 works, 60 of which are new.
To mark the occasion a calendar of events will be prepared, listing all the events taking place in Rome dedicated to Italian contemporary art. It will involve 25 museums, foundations and private galleries. There will also be an international roadshow, whose first stops will be Switzerland’s Art Basel and the Berlin Biennial.
The Quadriennale will be the first event to be promoted at the AXA Art in Basel on Monday evening. It will be launched by the Italian Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, Marco del Planta, and by Franco Bernabè, President of the Fondazione Quadriennale.
