The Italian Embassy in Ottawa is glad to announce that Prof. Dr. Damiano Pasini is the winner of the “Ingegno Italiano Award” 2026.

The evaluation procedure of the prize was coordinated by the Scientific Office of the Embassy of Italy with the support of the Scientific Council consisting of five internationally recognized scientists Prof. Rolando del Maestro (McGill University, Montreal, Emeritus), Prof. Gabriel Niccoli (University of Waterloo, Emeritus), Dott. Ing. Franco Mammarella (Directorate – Engineering Services, TRIUMF Emeritus), Prof. Dr. Giada Sebastiani (McGill University), Prof. Dr. Andrea Damascelli (University of British Columbia). The last two members of the SC are the winners of the 2025 and 2026 editions, respectively. |

Dr. Damiano Pasini, holder of the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Mechanical Metamaterials, is a member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University and conducts research in the broad fields of mechanics of materials and structural optimization. Professor Pasini is internationally recognized as a prominent leader in pioneering metamaterials with unprecedented properties and remarkable functionalities, driving advanced technologies across sectors, from soft robotics to aerospace and biomedical engineering.
The occasion will also serve to launch the Quebec Chapter of the Italian Scientist and Scholar North America Association and to celebrate the day of Italian Research in the World celebrated every year on April 22, the anniversary of the birth of the Italian scientist Rita Levi Montalcino.
