The Italian Ambassador to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, carried out an official mission to Montreal and Toronto on October 14th  and 15th.

On the morning of October 14th, the Ambassador chaired the InterComites Canada Meeting at the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal; in the presence of Hon. Andrea Di Giuseppe, Hon. Christian Di Sanzo, and, remotely, Senator Francesca La Marca — elected in the North America constituency — as well as the Consuls General of Italy in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, the Presidents of the Com.It.Es from the same cities, the Secretary of InterComites Canada, and the CGIE Councillor for Canada.

The meeting focused on key consular issues, services offered to Italian citizens, ongoing and planned initiatives, and activities for the promotion of the Italian language and culture.

In his remarks, Ambassador Cattaneo outlined the strategy of Italy’s diplomatic and consular network in Canada, in support of the Italian communities and to assist and promote the work of the Com.It.Es in the country.

In the afternoon, the Ambassador chaired a meeting of the Sistema Italia in Québec, attended by Hon. Di Giuseppe and Hon. Di Sanzo, the Consul General of Italy in Montreal, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Québec. The meeting offered an opportunity to outline the prospects for the economic and trade promotion of Made in Italy products in a large, competitive, and rapidly evolving market like Canada.

The day ended with a meeting with entrepreneurs and representatives of the Italian community in Québec, as well as Canadian parliamentarians of Italian origin.

Ambassador Cattaneo’s engagements continued on October 15th in Toronto, where he met with prominent figures and representatives of the Italian-Canadian community, including Senator Toni Varone; several federal and provincial Members of Parliament; the President of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA), Flavio Volpe; the CEO of the non-profit organization Villa Charities, Marco DeVuono; and representatives of the local Com.It.Es.
Finally, the Ambassador attended a charity evening organized by the Italian-Canadian Savings and Credit Union in honor of Senator Toni Varone.
