The Italian Embassy in Ottawa is glad to announce that Prof. Giada Sebastiani is the winner of the “Ingegno Italiano Award” 2025.
The evaluation procedure of the prize was coordinated by the Scientific Office of the Embassy of Italy with the support of the Scientific Council consisting of three internationally recognized scientists Prof. Rolando del Maestro (McGill University, Montreal, Emeritus), Prof. Gabriel Niccoli (University of Waterloo, Emeritus),
Dott. Ing. Franco Mammarella (Directorate – Engineering Services, TRIUMF Emeritus).
Giada Sebastiani is a Professor of Medicine and Hepatologist at McGill, University, Montreal. Her research focuses on the translation of epidemiological, diagnostic, and interventional discoveries into solutions for patients suffering from fatty liver disease. This disorder, linked to obesity and diabetes, affects one in three Canadians and is one of the main causes of liver transplants in North America and industrialized countries. World’s Top 2% Scientist, Giada Sebastiani pursues her research through interdisciplinary collaborations involving hepatology, endocrinology, radiology, basic medicine, public health, and gender medicine.
In 2018, Prof. Sebastiani co-founded the Canadian Fatty Liver Network and, since 2021, has chaired the annual Network conference, which produced a White Paper outlining a national strategy for the management of fatty liver disease in Canada and internationally. In 2024, she was elected President of the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver, and she continues to advance research on liver diseases and to develop research capacity in Canada.
On Aprile 29th , Prof. Giada Sebastiani, will give the talk “Healthy Livers, Healthy Lives: Fighting a Silent Pandemic” in the context of the scientific discussion on the Italian contribution to science in Canada, “Italian Talent in Canada: Excellence and Collaborations” at 3:30 PM, at Carleton University, Richcraft Hall, 1125 Colonel By Dr, Ottawa.
The occasion will also be useful to celebrate the day of Italian Research in the World celebrated every year on 22 April, the anniversary of the birth of the Italian scientist Rita Levi Montalcini.
