The first meeting of the Italy-Canada Joint Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (JAG-AI) was virtually held on October 24th. The JAG-AI was established as part of the Italy-Canada Road Map for enhanced cooperation announced by the Italian President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni and the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau during the G7 Summit in Borgo Egnazia.
With this initiative, Italy and Canada intend to implement common priorities in artificial intelligence, in key areas such as life sciences, transportation and cybersecurity, promoting the design, development and adoption of secure and reliable AI solutions. The JAG-AI, which builds on the excellent scientific collaboration between Italy and Canada, reflects the common drive for innovation and the shared commitment to address, with the help of artificial intelligence, the major global challenges, to ensure a safer, more innovative and sustainable future.
The JAG-AI consists of 14 participants (7 from each country) and is co-chaired by the President of the CNR and Canada’s Chief Science Advisor.
