On February 11-13, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, H.E. Alessandro Cattaneo, carried out an official visit to the Province of British Columbia.
In the capital city of Victoria, he was received by the Lieutenant Governor, Wendy Cocchia, with whom he discussed the strong and growing economic, social, and cultural relations between Italy and British Columbia. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Consul General in Vancouver, Paolo Miraglia del Giudice, and by the Consular Correspondent in Victoria, Silvana Saccomani.
The Ambassador then attended the “Speech from the Throne” at the provincial Legislative Assembly, signing on that occasion the book of condolences for the recent tragedy at the school in Tumbler Ridge.
The programme included numerous economic and commercial engagements: Ambassador Cattaneo met Italian and Canadian companies active in defence, infrastructure, and construction, and spoke at the Italy-Canada Green Building Forum organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Western Canada within the context of the Buildex trade fair.
The Ambassador also visited the ICE Agency office and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vancouver.
Scientific cooperation was another key theme of the visit, highlighted by the Ambassador’s visit to the prestigious nuclear research centre TRIUMF, where many Italian scientists are active.
Finally, highly attended meetings took place with the Italian community and its representative bodies, ComItEs and CGIE, at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver and at the Italian Assistance Centre in Victoria.
