Canada and Italy reaffirm their strong commitment to deepen collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence as carried forward during their respective G7 presidencies. Within this context, in 2024 Canada and Italy launched the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Artificial Intelligence (AI), a partnership that brings together representatives from both sides to enhance cooperation and advance shared priorities in the AI domain.
Since the commencement of its activities in 2024, the JAG has worked to identify areas of mutual interest and to support the creation of joint initiatives to promote the development and adoption of secure and responsible AI.
Looking ahead, the JAG is preparing the launch of a new dedicated cooperation project in 2026 aimed at enhancing synergies between the research community and industry sector, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to foster the development of AI use.
The outcomes of this project will be presented during a workshop to be held in 2026 in Italy, which will bring together leading representatives from the research and industrial communities from both countries. Discussions are ongoing on potential mechanisms for co-funding and the introduction of possible joint calls.
