VISIT OF THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY TO OTTAWA (SEPTEMBER 7-8, 2025)

2

The Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli made its annual educational trip to North America, with the first stop in Canada.

Ambassador Cattaneo met with the cadets at the War Museum in Ottawa. He was accompanied by the Academy Commander, Air Force Major General Luigi Casali, and Colonel Emanuele Chiadroni, Air Force Attaché.

The “Drago VI” course, now entering its fourth year at the Academy, includes 91 cadets – 22 of whom are women, and 5 are international students. Among them, 41 are training to become pilots; 17 are preparing as weapons officers; 16 as engineers; 9 as logistics officers (commissaries); and 8 as medical officers.

During their visit to Ottawa, the cadets received a briefing from the 3rd Canadian Space Division, which is responsible for space support to Canadian military operations, the defense and protection of Canada’s military space assets, and international cooperation with allies and partners. It was an opportunity to establish valuable connections with Canadian counterparts in a strategic sector such as space collaboration.

The visit of Commander Casali and the cadets to Ottawa marked an important opportunity to strengthen the dialogue between Italy and Canada in the field of security and defense. The relationship between the two air forces is particularly close and has been further enhanced by the training provided by the IFTS (International Flight Training School) at the Italian base in Decimomannu, Sardinia.
