The seventh edition of the Canada-Italy Forum on Artificial Intelligence kicked off today in Montreal, organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Ottawa and the Consulate General of Italy in Montreal. This year’s theme is “AI in Action – Leveraging Innovation in a Changing World.” The Forum represents another milestone in strengthening the privileged collaboration between Italy and Canada in this key sector, complementing the recent creation of the bilateral “Joint Advisory Group” on Artificial Intelligence, which aims to promote the ethical, inclusive, and sustainable development of AI.

At yesterday’s opening event, which was inaugurated by the President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada, Carmine D’Argenio, speeches were delivered by the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, and the Consul General in Montreal, Enrico Pavone, alongside numerous leaders from both the Canadian and Italian AI ecosystems. The regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Emilia Romagna were also represented at the institutional level.

In his speech, Ambassador Cattaneo emphasized the strategic value of the collaboration between Italy and Canada in the field of AI, highlighting how it aligns with the shared commitment of both governments, which they have promoted during their respective G7 presidencies.

The opening event also provided the occasion for the signing of two new significant cooperation agreements: one between Italy’s National Biodiversity Future Center and the Quebec Center for Biodiversity Science, and another between the Emilia Romagna Region’s Build ER Cluster and the AdapT Research Institute at ETS in Montreal.
