The Embassy of Italy in Canada, in collaboration with Fondazione Festival Pucciniano, organized yesterday the opera recital “All’alba vincerò. A musical journey through Puccini’s masterpieces” at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre. Fondazione Festival Pucciniano organizes yearly in Torre Del Lago, Tuscany, the one and only festival in the world dedicated to Giacomo Puccini and his masterpieces. The concert was an opportunity to celebrate the centenary of the passing of the famous Italian composer and the enlistment of the art of Italian opera singing within UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Rebecca Scano, Head of Cultural Affairs, Press and Communications at the Embassy of Italy in Canada, highlighted the importance of opera as a crucial part of Italy’s cultural heritage and recalled the enormous artistic legacy of Maestro Puccini. Ms. Scano also stressed how music is a universal language, which has the extraordinary ability to unite people, overcoming all barriers and differences.

Before an audience of 600 guests, including representatives of Canada’s cultural, academic, scientific and economic institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Italian community in Ottawa and lovers of Italian music and culture, the talented artists – soprano Claudia Pavone, tenor Valerio Borgioni and pianist Chiara Mariani – performed the most famous arias from Giacomo Puccini’s operas, La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Turandot, receiving warm applause from the audience.
