The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, attended on Friday in the Italian Day the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), speaking at a seminar organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in Toronto to promote Italy as an international hub for film and audiovisual productions.
Opened by Carlo Bocchi, Director of the Italian Trade Agency in Canada, and attended by Alberta Lai, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto, the workshop “Spotlight: Italy Offers Everything You Need” presented Italy as a strategic partner for North American and international productions, providing an overview of tax incentives, financing instruments, co-production opportunities, and the outstanding expertise of Italian film professionals.
Speakers included, among others, Cristina Giubbetti, Vice President of the Association of Executive Producers (APE), and Guido Cassano, Film Commissioner for Friuli Venezia Giulia.
As Ambassador Cattaneo noted, “the film industry and the audiovisual sector as a whole are an important part of Italy’s cultural identity and a significant component of its economy. They create and promote the creativity, taste and identity of our country thanks to the extraordinary technical expertise of the crews and professionals who make up the Italian film industry.”
Ambassador Cattaneo then inaugurated the exhibition space at the TIFF Market supported by the Italian Trade Agency for Italian producers and distributors. The Italian delegation, promoted by ITA and Cinecittà, includes six producers and seven distributors of audiovisual content, while five Italian films and nine co-productions are featured in the Festival programme.
