In the last few days, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, paid an official visit to Niagara Falls (Ontario), a city with a long-standing and significant Italian heritage.
The visit took place at the invitation of Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati and federal Member of Parliament Tony Baldinelli.
The program began with a flag-raising ceremony at Niagara Falls City Hall, attended by approximately one hundred guests, including Niagara Falls Mayor (USA) Robert Restaino, President of Club Italia Andrew Vergalito, and numerous members of the Italian-Canadian community.
In the evening, Ambassador Cattaneo met with representatives of the local business community. The event was also attended by several Provincial Ministers and members of the provincial legislature.
The gathering was followed by the spectacular illumination of the Niagara Falls in the colours of the Italian flag, marking the beginning of Italian Heritage Month in Canada.
The visit was concluded with stops at several historic Italian-Canadian businesses in the neighbouring city of Thorold.
