The Ambassador of Italy to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo, took part today in Toronto, at the historic Distillery District, in the annual ceremony organized by CIBPA (Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association) for the awarding of scholarships to young Italian-Canadians.

Among those in attendance were Bob Sacco, President of the CIBPA Education Foundation, along with key association leaders; Secretary of State for Labour, John Zerucelli; Member of Parliament for King-Vaughan, Anna Roberts; and APMA (Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association) CEO, Flavio Volpe.

During the ceremony, a donation of 100,000 Canadian dollars to the Lincoln Alexander Law School at TMU was presented in honour of Sergio Marchionne. The ceremony also highlighted funding from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) to the new promoting body YCDSB ItaliaLinguaCultura, supporting a project for the promotion of Italian language and culture in York Catholic District School Board institutions. Furthermore, four Italian-Canadian students recently returned from a study trip to the Lazio region, organized by NIAF, were formally welcomed.

On the previous day, Ambassador Cattaneo, accompanied by Consul Giulia Romani, had attended a commemorative ceremony at Beechwood Cemetery together with Senator Toni Varone. The event, organized by CIBPA, paid tribute to Sergio Marchionne, whose remarkable legacy as a business leader is remembered with respect and affection by all who knew him and by the Italian-Canadian community of Toronto.
