The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) announces the ninth edition of the \u201cFarnesina \u2013 Italian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation Award\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cInnovation that Speaks Italian\u201d<\/strong> Awards, and the fourth edition of the \u201cScience, She Says!\u201d<\/strong> Award.<\/p>\n

The \u201cFarnesina \u2013 Italian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation Award\u201d<\/strong> is awarded in alternating years to senior and junior Italian researchers who have distinguished themselves abroad for outstanding scientific merit and for their contribution to international scientific cooperation. For the 2026 edition, the call is open to junior researchers under 40, including those active in Canada. Nominations will be assessed by a Scientific Committee composed of representatives of the Council of Presidents of Public Research Institutions (CoPER). The award granted to the winner will consist of a contribution to support a three-month research stay at a research institution in Italy, to be completed within 12 months of selection. The winner will also be invited to present their research at the Conference of Scientific and Space Attach\u00e9s and Agricultural Experts, scheduled to take place in Reggio Calabria in November, and will receive a diploma and a commemorative plaque.<\/p>\n

The \u201cInnovation that Speaks Italian\u201d Award<\/strong> is intended for technology startups operating abroad and founded by Italian citizens, in recognition of their high innovative value. Nominations will be assessed by a Technical Committee coordinated by the competent MAECI Office for the promotion of innovative industrial value chains and startups. The winner will be invited to present their research and innovation during the startup-focused segment of the Conference of Scientific and Space Attach\u00e9s and Agricultural Experts in Reggio Calabria in November, and will also receive a diploma and a commemorative plaque.<\/p>\n

The \u201cScience, She Says!\u201d Award<\/strong> seeks to recognize the contribution of young foreign female researchers under the age of 40 to the advancement of science and technology. The Award will be granted to five researchers, one from each of the following geographical areas: Africa and the Middle East; Asia and the Pacific; Europe; Central and South America and the Caribbean; North America. Nominations submitted in Canada will therefore compete for the award for North America and will undergo a geographical pre-selection, with the support of Scientific and Space Attach\u00e9s in the region. Shortlisted nominations will subsequently be assessed by a Scientific Committee composed of representatives of MAECI, the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), and the main Italian research institutions, which will select one winner for each geographical area. Winners of the \u201cScience, She Says!\u201d Award will receive a diploma and a commemorative plaque.<\/p>\n

Nominations for the three Awards must be submitted to the Embassy of Italy in Ottawa<\/strong> in accordance with the procedures and deadlines set out in the respective calls, no later than September 18, 2026<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
