{"id":672,"date":"2022-12-13T15:23:42","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T14:23:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/?page_id=672"},"modified":"2025-06-11T21:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T19:21:10","slug":"certifications-legalization","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/servizi-notarili\/certifications-legalization\/","title":{"rendered":"Certifications \/ Legalization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>IMPORTANT NOTICE: <\/strong><strong>As of<\/strong><strong> January 11<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>Apostille Convention<\/strong> <strong>came into effect in Canada.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This means that an official document issued in Canada\u00a0<\/strong>(e.g., a birth certificate issued in Ontario or a Manitoba Bachelor\u2019s Degree)\u00a0<strong>endowed with an Apostille certificate<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>by the relevant Canadian Authorities<\/strong> <strong>does not require to be legalized by the Italian Embassy or Consulates\u00a0in Canada<\/strong>\u00a0to be considered\u00a0<strong>valid in Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>___________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Certification or legalization is used to confirm that a signature on a legal document (of a lawyer, notary public, Canadian public service officer, officer of a Canadian academic institution) corresponds to the signature on file at the Consular Office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the signature is not on file with the Consular Office, it must first be authenticated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/gac-amc\/about-a_propos\/services\/authentication-authentification\/step-etape-3.aspx?lang=eng\">Global Affairs Canada<\/a>, and the signature of the Global Affairs officer legalized in turn by the Consular Office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You may check to see if the signature is on file with this Embassy by consulting the following lists:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Notai_Avv-05.05.25.pdf\">Signature List, notaries and lawyers;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Traduttori.pdf\">Signature List, translators;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The signatures of Vital Statistics Officers pertinent to documents issued in this consular district (birth, death, and marriage certificates) are all on file with the Embassy\u2019s Consular Office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You may make an appointment via the online reservation system <a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">Prenot@mi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fee for the service is listed <a href=\"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/altri-servizi\/albo-consolare\/tabella-diritti-consolari\/\">here<\/a>.
