{"id":3151,"date":"2023-08-24T17:50:16","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T15:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/?page_id=3151"},"modified":"2026-01-27T19:39:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T18:39:11","slug":"electronic-identity-card-eic","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/electronic-identity-card-eic\/","title":{"rendered":"Electronic identity card (EIC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The EIC may only be issued to Italian citizens regularly residing in their consular district, who are already entered into the consular register and whose personal data are already present in the Interior Ministry\u2019s database of the Register of Italians living abroad (A.I.R.E.).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Those who are not registered with A.I.R.E. will first have to regularize their civil registration through the <a href=\"https:\/\/serviziconsolari.esteri.it\/ScoFE\/index.sco\">FAST IT portal<\/a> and wait, before they can apply, to be entered in that register by the competent Italian municipality (for citizens not registered with A.I.R.E., the competence to issue the identity card remains with the municipality of residence).<br \/>\nFor the purposes of registration in the A.I.R.E. database, it is essential for Italian citizens born abroad that the birth certificate is already transcribed in the Civil Status Registers of the relevant municipality.<br \/>\nIn case one has changed their address of residence (from the one communicated to the Consular Office), it is necessary to request the change of address through the <a href=\"https:\/\/serviziconsolari.esteri.it\/ScoFE\/index.sco\">FAST IT portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.Validity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The validity of the identity card varies depending on the holder\u2019s age:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 years for minors under 3 years of age;<\/li>\n<li>5 years for minors between 3 and 18 years of age;<\/li>\n<li>10 years for adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Application procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The application for an electronic identity card shall be submitted using the la <a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">Prenot@Mi<\/a> platform.<\/p>\n<p>At least 15 days shall elapse from the moment when the application is submitted to the date set for the appointment, which is necessary to enable the consular office to check the applicant\u2019s personal details, correct any mismatch and check that there are no causes that prevent the document from being issued.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Appointment and documents to be submitted<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When showing up at the appointment, the citizen shall provide the following\u00a0<strong>documents<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 passport photo, in paper format, of the same type as those used for the passport;<\/li>\n<li>identity document in accordance with Presidential Decree 445\/2000. If the applicant has no identity document, he \/ she shall be accompanied by two witnesses;<\/li>\n<li>an affidavit from the other parent if the applicant has children under the age of 18 (regardless of the applicant\u2019s marital status: single, married, separated or divorced);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/mae\/resource\/doc\/2019\/09\/form_2_-atto_di_assenso_tra_genitori.docx\">atto di assenso al rilascio da parte dell\u2019altro genitore<\/a>\u00a0(<strong>affidavit of consent to the issuance of the document by the other parent)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an affidavit from both parents if the applicant is under the age of 18;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/mae\/resource\/doc\/2019\/09\/form1_-_atto_di_assenso_in_favore_dei_figli_minori.docx\">atto di assenso di entrambi genitori\u00a0<\/a>(<strong>affidavit of consent to the issuance of the document by both parents)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the time of the appointment, the consular officer\u00a0<strong>shall take the applicant\u2019s photo and, except for minors under 12 years of age, the fingerprints, and the signature,<\/strong>\u00a0which shall be securely recorded inside his \/ her EIC microchip and not stored in any other place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Cost<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The cost of the document is indicated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ambottawa.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/altri-servizi\/albo-consolare\/consular-services-fees\/\">table of consular fees<\/a>: under Article 28C for issuance or renewal, and under Article 28D in the case of a duplicate due to loss or thef.<\/p>\n<p>Payment shall be made on the day of the appointment, in accordance with the procedures established by the consular office of reference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Delivery of the identity card<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato<\/em>\u00a0shall print and then deliver the EIC by post to the address of residence (or delivery address) provided by the applicant, within 15 days from the date of the application submitted to the Consulate.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of non-delivery due to an incorrect address, the parcel is held at the local post office for collection for the required period of time, at the end of which it is returned to the relevant Consular Office for attempting a further delivery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tax Code<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As of July 15, 2024, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Italians registered with AIRE<\/span> in the Consular Circumscription of this Embassy may directly download the tax code attribution certificate through the <a href=\"https:\/\/serviziconsolari.esteri.it\/ScoFE\/services\/service-info.sco?serviceId=95&amp;sCode=GCF#_blank\">Fast It Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log into the <a href=\"https:\/\/serviziconsolari.esteri.it\/ScoFE\/services\/service-info.sco?serviceId=95&amp;sCode=GCF#_blank\">Fast It Portal<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201cConsular Registry and AIRE\u201d and then on <strong>\u201cTax Code Attribution;\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Confirm the data and send the request;<\/li>\n<li>Download the Tax Code Attribution certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If you are unable to download<\/strong> the Tax Code Attribution Certificate:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Register on the <a href=\"https:\/\/serviziconsolari.esteri.it\/ScoFE\/services\/service-info.sco?serviceId=95&amp;sCode=GCF#_blank\">FAST IT portal<\/a>, or log in if you already have an account;<\/li>\n<li>Request the \u201cOnline Association\u201d by clicking on \u201cConsular Registry and AIRE\u201d and then on \u201cView your registry record;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Within 2 business days of the request, you will receive the message of successful association on your inbox.<\/li>\n<li>Log into the portal and download the certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The EIC may only be issued to Italian citizens regularly residing in their consular district, who are already entered into the consular register and whose personal data are already present in the Interior Ministry\u2019s database of the Register of Italians living abroad (A.I.R.E.).
