June 2nd – Italian National Day celebrated on Parliament Hill

A ceremony was held yesterday in Ottawa near the Centennial flame, in front of the Central Block of the Parliament, to mark the 76th anniversary of the Italian Republic.

The Hon. Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons, the Hon. David Lametti, Minister of Justice, and Senator Tony Loffreda addressed warm words on the occasion. The event was organized by the Canada-Italy Interparliamentary Group, chaired by MP Angelo Iacono, and was attended by Members of Parliament of Italian origin and many other friends of Italy.

Ambassador Andrea Ferrari gave a speech during the ceremony. After the Canadian anthem, the Italian flag rose to the notes of Mameli’s anthem. Both were performed live by the internationally renowned Italian-Canadian singer-songwriter, Dia.
