Fields Medal Symposium 2020 with Italian mathematician Alessio Figalli

The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences in Toronto organizes every year a symposium to celebrate the work of a mathematician who recently received the prestigious Fields Medal, and to promote his research activity.

This year’s edition of the Fields Medal Symposium will honor Italian mathematician Alessio Figalli (Fields Medal 2018) and will explore the current and potential impact of his work. The 2020 Symposium will showcase two events:

Public Opening (October 19): proudly supported by the Embassy of Italy in Canada and the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto, the event will feature remarks and messages from the Governor General of Canada, the Right Honourable Julie Payette, the Ambassador of Italy to Canada, His Excellency Claudio Taffuri, and Chief Science Advisor of Canada, Mona Nemer; the highlight will be an interview with Alessio Figalli, followed by a round table with distinguished scientists from all over the world.

Scientific Program (October 19-23): intended for a wide audience of scholars, including PhD students, mathematicians in other research areas and scientists who use mathematics in a meaningful way, the event will deepen the impact of Alessio Figalli’s work, while highlighting its relevance.

Participation at the public opening is free; however, registration is required.
