On November 9 Mario Pirovano will be staging in Ottawa Francis, the Holy Jester by Dario Fo

On November 9, 2019, at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Center in Ottawa, Mario Pirovano will be staging Francis, the Holy Jester by Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo.

Fruit of a collaboration between the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto, Carleton University and Dante Alighieri Society, the event – part of the international tour of the well-known actor and director, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the première of the theatrical masterpiece “Mistero Buffo” – celebrates the Italian Language Week in the World.

Francis, the Holy Jester is a monologue that brings to life a whole series of characters from medieval Italy: Popes and Cardinals, soldiers on battlefields, farmers and market vendors, monks and quarrymen. The historical reality and the popular tradition intertwine in retracing some of the most significant moments in the life of St. Francis. Peace and war, love for nature, brotherhood among men,
pain and joy, wealth and humility are the themes of this satire that at the same time amuses, moves and provokes.

The show, presented in English, will be preceded by refreshments.
